Code Enforcement Resident’s Resource Guide

How to address a Code Enforcement lien

Code Enforcement has placed liens on the 2010 tax bill of all properties that were fined during a blight hearing in 2009. Owners can work to lessen these liens by bringing the property into compliance with the City Code. Click here for more information.

Times Picayune Article Highlights Significant Reduction in Blight

Code Enforcement Launches Campaign to Address Abandoned Pools

Code Enforcement is working with residents and the Mosquito Control Board to address all remaining abandoned pools in the City. 323 properties have been prosecuted so far. Schedule of Code Enforcement Hearings 
The Code Enforcement Department holds regular hearings for properties that are in violation of the City Code. Residents are welcome to observe the hearings and may request to testify.

Upcoming Reset Dates
During a hearing, an owner has the opportunity to enter into an agreement to make the necessary repairs to their properties. If they do this, the Code Enforcement Department gives them a ‘reset’ hearing date. During a reset hearing the owner must show that they have completed the agreed upon work. If they have not, daily fines can begin.
