3/18/2010 - PARKING METER CHANGES Parking Meter Changes Coming This Weekend
PARKING METER CHANGESCitizens are reminded of the upcoming changes to parking meter hours adopted as a part of the 2010 budget. This Saturday, March 20th, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will begin issuing courtesy, warning citations to parking meter violators according to the new policy to extend meter hours/days to Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Full enforcement of the new hours will begin on Saturday, March 27.

VOLUNTEERS HELP RESTORE COASTWhile many college students spend this week with friends at the beach, 50 Howard University students spent part of their spring break assisting the City's Department of Environmental Affairs with a Christmas tree recycling program and a project to stabilize the shoreline.

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON JOURDAN AVENUEWorkers continue construction on the heavily damaged Jourdan Avenue in the Lower Ninth Ward as part of the FEMA Eligible Roadway and Sidewalk Patching Repair program. Late last year, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works and the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans began the $1.8 million construction project to rehabilitate Jourdan Avenue from the N. Claiborne Avenue Bridge to Florida Avenue.

THANK YOU HORNETSOnce again Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets, in partnership with Urban Strategies, stepped-up to help restore a local NORD basketball court in Central City at AL Davis Playground. On Saturday, February 20th, fans of all ages dressed in Hornets gear gathered at the playground for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

NEW PARKING METER POLICY TO COMEThe City of New Orleans will soon implement changes to the parking meter program that will affect commercial and residential areas of the City. This week, Robert Mendoza, director of the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works, outlined the City’s plan to implement extended parking meter enforcement hours to Monday-Saturday from 8a.m. to 6 p.m. during the New Orleans City Council Public Works Committee meeting.
3/2/2010 - FIXING STREETS Street Repairs Funded by Disaster Community Development Block Grants
FIXING STREETSCrews recently began construction work on two roadway rehabilitation projects funded by disaster community development block grants (d-CDBG). St. Roch Avenue from N. Roman Street to St. Claude Avenue will received approximately $850,000 in rehabilitation repairs. Douglass Street from Forstall Street to Lamanche Street, Andry Street from N. Peters Street to Douglass Street, and N. Peters Street from Andry Street to Flood Street will receive approximately $890,000 in rehabilitation repairs.
2/24/2010 - HELPING HAITI City of New Orleans Held Special Benefit Concert
HELPING HAITISong and dance inspired by New Orleans Jazz and Haitian music entertained New Orleanians at the House of Blues this week for a special benefit concert. The City of New Orleans & Mayor C. Ray Nagin held a one-of-a-kind show to raise funds for Haiti featuring Los Hombres Calientes: Reunited for Haiti with Bill Summers, Irvin Mayfield, and special guests. All proceeds from ticket sales and donations went to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Efforts.
