AMBASSADOR FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
City of New Orleans Recognizes Pearlie H. Elloie

An outstanding ambassador for children and their families New Orleans, Pearlie H. Elloie, was honored today by Mayor C. Ray Nagin on behalf of the City of New Orleans and its citizens. Mayor Nagin presented a proclamation to Ms. Elloie designating today a Special Day of Honor in recognition of her tireless efforts to address the needs of the underprivileged and the disenfranchised families in our communities.

Ms. Elloie has devoted her life to her vision of arriving at a community that embraces, protects, and nurtures children and “where their full physical, social, emotional, cognitive and cultural developmental potential is realized.” Currently the Acting Director of Total Community Action, Inc., Pearlie’s leadership in the Head Start and Early Head Start Program both pre and post-Katrina have affected thousands children from infancy to adolescence.

On October 30th, TCA hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new Head Start Center, located at 3029 Wall Boulevard, in the name of Pearlie H. Elloie. This center represents the continuation of her vision in the New Orleans community. Since October 2005, 18 Head Start Centers have reopened.

The City of New Orleans thanks Ms. Elloie for her continued support to the recovery of the City of New Orleans!
