CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO RELEASE BID FOR BRECHTEL PARK

The City of New Orleans is pleased to announce an Invitation to Bid for Brechtel Park, located at 3700 Behrman Pl. This project shall include the demolition and replacement of existing paving and curbs, replacement of metal fencing, installation of park fixtures and water fountains and other site improvements.

Named after Louisiana's first Parks Director, (John B.) Brechtel Memorial Park was built in the 1940's through a Civil Works Administration program. The Park facility is comprised of 100 acres of park area, improvements including two (2) restroom buildings, eight (8) picnic shelters, a sports field, playground, concrete sidewalks and paths, a lagoon system, and a paved vehicular roadway.

"This is another positive sign in the restoration of a jewel in our city, a very natural park in an urban space. We look forward to it opening completely for all Algierians and New Orleanians to enjoy," says Parks and Parkways Director, Ann McDonald.

Prior to Katrina, Brechtel Memorial Park was one of the most diverse and beautiful plant and wildlife habitats of any urban park in the U.S. Brechtel Memorial Park is currently open to the public on weekends only, but lacks electrical and sewer services to much of the site. Hurricane Katrina brought high winds and some flooding, due to overflowing of adjacent drainage canals, to the Brechtel facilities.

To be considered for this project, interested contractors must submit a bid for Brechtel Park by 10:00 a.m. (CST) Friday, November 6, 2009.

To compete successfully for this Open Market bid, ensure you are registered as a Vendor with the City of New Orleans and keep your registration information - particularly your email address - current and check weekly for open bids, proposals, purchase orders, change orders and other communications online. New bids and proposals are sent automatically to registered Vendors via email through BuySpeed.

When you submit a bid, carefully read all instructions and provide only the information requested. Failure to submit all information requested in an Invitation to Bid and/or adding information not requested on a Bid Form may render a bid rejected and non-responsive.
