CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO BEGIN DEMOLITION OF 5th DISTRICT POLICE STATION

The the City of New Orleans will host a press event to kick off the demolition of the 5th District Police Station, located at 3900 North Claiborne. (District C), at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Media Opportunities: Cynthia Sylvain-Lear, Deputy CAO - City Of New Orleans Chief Riley - NOPD James Carter - Council Member District C Katrina damage to the building was extensive, approximately 5 feet of brackish salt water drained over an extended period of time, corroding metal components and damaging electrical, mechanical and other fixtures. Since the cost of repairs exceeds 50% of replacement cost, the City intends to reconstruct the building. A New Police Station will be built at the existing site. The 3 story building is currently in the Design phase. Estimated at 19,000 square feet with an anticipated construction cost of $6 Million.
