CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO BEGIN DEMOLITION OF 5th DISTRICT POLICE STATION

The the City of New Orleans will host a press event to kick off the demolition of the 5th District Police Station, located at 3900 North Claiborne. (District C), at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

Katrina damage to the building was extensive, approximately 5 feet of brackish salt water drained over an extended period of time, corroding metal components and damaging electrical, mechanical and other fixtures. Since the cost of repairs exceeds 50% of replacement cost, the City intends to reconstruct the building.

A New Police Station will be built at the existing site. The 3 story building is currently in the Design phase. Estimated at 19,000 square feet with an anticipated construction cost of $6 Million. The current estimated schedule for Construction start is Mid 2010.
