CITY OF NEW ORLEANS TO RELEASE BIDS FOR NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION

An Invitation to Bid for the New Orleans Police Department Special Operations Division, located at 1899 Tchoupitoulas St. was released on Friday, October 9, 2009. This project shall include:

  • Construction of approximately 17,000 s.f. of permanent office space
  • All interior site utilities necessary to provide water, gas, waste and electricity for the new offices
The site is used to manage a fleet of specialized vehicles and equipment. This division will handle special events and major emergencies. More than 100 staff members will use the new office quarters upon completion of the renovations.

The City purchased the facility in the summer of 2008. The 92,000 s.f. building was previouly used as a precious metals warehouse and was originally used as a cotton storage facility. The previous location of the SOD was located at 1300 Moss St., which sustained severe damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"We would like to thank the City for purchasing the facility and investing money in building this state of the art facility", says Deputy Chief Lawrence Weathersby, Sr.
