| CITY UPGRADES RECOVERY MAP ON WEB SITE |
BASED ON CITIZEN INPUT, INCREASED MAP FUNCTIONALITY NOW AVAILABLE NEW ORLEANS (Nov. 4, 2009) - In order to increase Web site functionality and provide more user-friendly technology, today, the City of New Orleans launched an upgraded Recovery Web site (www.cityofno.com/recovery) that includes multiple enhancements.
The updated Web site allows users to search for City facility and roadway recovery projects on one map. The new map shows projects citywide, by City Council district, by Planning District, by neighborhood or located near a specific address. In addition, users now have the ability to create a printable map and report of projects located in the specified area.
"We are always soliciting input on how to improve the City's Recovery Web site," said Robert Mendoza, Director of Public Works. "These upgrades are a reflection of suggestions we've received from neighborhood associations and other Web site users. We have increased the amount of information on this Web site and have provided residents with more detail about each project."
New features include:
- GIS (Geographic Information System) based software that allows users to seamlessly view more information at once with a combination of search parameters
- A "Create Report" feature to view projects in each neighborhood is now available in a printable format. Project information includes average cost, status and schedule information for recovery projects within a specified area
- User capability to view projects on the map by status (e.g. pre-construction, construction and complete) or by project lifecycle phase (e.g. Planning, Contracting, Design, Bid & Award, Construction and Close-Out)
Specifically related to the Department of Public Works FEMA-Eligible Roadway & Sidewalk Patching Repairs project, the improved Web site features:
- More detailed information for specific repair locations to allow the comparison of the estimated repair cost versus the actual cost for the completed repair
- Feature allowing residents that submitted Additional Damage Reports for other roadway and sidewalk locations damaged during Hurricane Katrina to track the status of their report on the map by selecting "Inquiries" and searching for a specific location
The Recovery Projects Information Web Site will continue to be updated regularly as new information becomes available.
