Washington Convicted of Shooting Assault on Father and Son

(New Orleans, LA)  - Timothy Washington (A.K.A. Derrick Dorsey), 40, was convicted of two counts of attempted second degree murder this week for shooting a father and his son in an Algiers neighborhood on the morning of May 23, 2008, announced Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon A. Cannizzaro, Jr.

Moments prior to the incident, the victims were returning home at about 4:30 a.m. from an overnight work shift when the father remembered that he forgot to put out the garbage. The father, driving along his street of residence, stopped his car and asked the defendant, who he had known to be a sanitation worker, whether garbage pick-up had taken place. Washington told the father that he didn't know. The father then told his son to check a garbage can on the side of the road; the son heeded. As the son attempted to re-enter the vehicle, Washington fired at least five shots into the car, striking each victim once.

The conviction was rendered in a one-day judge trial Tuesday, and Washington faces 10 to 50 years imprisonment on each count. He will be sentenced on Thursday, August 27, 2009 in Section K of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. Assistant District Attorneys Brigid Collins and Stephen Collins prosecuted this matter.
