New Orleans EMS is currently on a hiring freeze. We are no longer accepting applications for the EMT- Basic positions. New Orleans EMS will still be conducting VIGOR classes on bimonthly basis and as scheduling allows. Once the hiring freeze is lifted, EMT-Basic applicants will have a better chance at employment with New Orleans EMS if they are an active EMS VIGOR.
When the hiring freeze is lifted and/or EMS can begin accepting applications, it will be posted on this site immediately.
NREMT– Basic
Job Title: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, ASSISTANT, ASSISTANT (EMT-Basic)

Description: Specialized work, under professional supervision, in the receipt of emergency medical calls, dispatching of appropriate emergency medical vehicles, driving emergency medical vehicles (specifically ambulance type vehicles), transportation and care of patients to a medical facility, and administration of basic emergency medical aid; and related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of current provisional or permanent National Registry EMT Basic Certification, LA State Bureau of EMS Basic License and CPR card.
NREMT– Intermediate
Job Title: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN, INTERMEDIATE, INTERMEDIATE (EMT-I)

Description: Responsible specialized work, under the direction of a physician, in the recognition, assessment, and control of medical emergencies; driving of emergency medical vehicles (specifically ambulance type vehicles), transportation and care of patients to a medical facility, and related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of current provisional or permanent National Registry EMT Intermediate Certification, LA State Bureau of EMS Intermediate License and CPR cards.
NREMT– Paramedic

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current provisional or permanent National Registry Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic.
EMT Volunteer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current provisional or permanent National Registry Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic; LA State Bureau of EMS Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic License and CPR cards
NOTE: All EMTs must obtain an Orleans Parish Permit during their classroom orientation period. Applicants must present their original certificates at the time of application and must keep ALL certifications current at all times to maintain employment with the City of New Orleans.
