New Orleans EMS Volunteer Program (VIGOR)
The New Orleans EMS VIGOR program allows potential new employees and individuals who are curious about EMS a chance to ride along with EMS. All VIGORS must complete a VIGOR orientation class and possess the following credentials and certifications:
- Current provisional or permanent National Registry Certification as an EMT Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic;
- LA State Bureau of EMS Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic License &
- Current CPR card
VIGORs are required to ride along on one 12 hour shift once every 2 moths to remain VIGOR. When riding along with EMS, VIGORs are expected to follow all EMS policy and procedures. VIGORs are allowed to assist in supervised patient care. They are also able to attend all in house training for free.
The VIGOR orientation class is held bimonthly on a Saturday morning.
