The role of the Mayor’s Office of Public Advocacy (MOPA) is in deed, multifaceted. MOPA keeps track of local, state, and federal departments and agencies, as well as non-profit organizations, to provide assistance and referrals for citizens regarding human and social service matters. A division of MOPA, the Volunteers in Government of Responsibility Office (VIGOR), provides individuals willing to give of their time, and expertise the benefit of volunteering and/or interning within various divisions of City Government. MOPA / VIGOR also works as the primary artery in assisting with in-depth citizen concerns, requests, and information, and functions as a vital resource in the Citywide Assisted Evacuation Process (CAEP) during emergencies and disasters. The Mayor’s Office of Public Advocacy is instrumental in ensuring that citizens receive the information, resources and services requested, and that constituent issues and concerns pertaining to City government are resolved in a timely and effective manner.

In addition, MOPA / VIGOR houses a telephone device for the deaf that enables the user to send and receive messages through the telephone lines. The TDD number is (504) 568-4475. Persons requiring accommodations or an auxiliary aid or service to participate in a City program, service, or activity should contact the Mayor’s Office of Public Advocacy. The City will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.

NOTIFICATION:
