Court/Case number: CDC - Case # 2009-6675 (c/w 2009-6861) City of New Orleans v LETAPP Hospitality L.L.C. and Suites at New Orleans, L.L.C
Court Ruling: The Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans ruled in favor of the City’s Petition for Temporary Restraining Order and Preliminary and Permanent Injunctionr resulting in the closure the Canal Street Hotel.
Case Summary: Chief Deputy City Attorney Nolan P. Lambert and Deputy City Attorney Ed Washington were successful in closing down a hotel that was the venue of numerous criminal acts and building code violations. The City inspectors inspected the hotel and found the existence of life safety code violations. Also drugs, guns and murder occurred in the hotel. In addition, there were a number of chronic nuisance calls to the New Orleans Police Department regarding criminal acts being committed over the course of the year. As a result, they were successful in closing the hotel prior to the Essence Festival after a recent court hearing and it will remain closed until appropriate changes are made.
