 To qualify to register you must:
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 17 years old to register but must be 18 years old to vote
  • Not be underan order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony
  • Not be under a judgment of full interdiction or limited interdiction where your right to vote has been suspended
  • Reside in the state and parish in which you seek to register and vote.

Mandated Registration Office

You many apply for voter registration by completing a Louisiana Voter Registration Application form at any Registrar of Voters Office or by mailing a voter registration application. In addition, if you are seeking services at designated mandated sites, voter registration may be offered to you. Below is a list of mandated sites.
  • Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicle offices
  • Louisiana Department of Social Services offices
  • WIC offices
  • Food Stamp offices
  • Medicaid offices
  • Offices serving persons with disabilities,such as the Deaf Action Centers and Independent Living Offices
  • Armed Forces Recruitment offices
Registration by Mail
To register by mail download the Louisiana Voter Registration Application form and then return the completed form to the Registrar of Voters office at 1300 Perdido Street, Room 1W24, New Orleans, Louisiana Statues require you to be registered 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that particular election. Faxed Voter registration forms are not accepted. The Voter Registration form should be addressed and mailed or hand-delivered to the Registrar of Voters office. DO NOT mail or otherwise send Voter Registration forms to the Secretary of State Elections Division office - deadlines requiring receipt in the Registrar's office may be missed.
Change of Name Procedure
In order to remain a legal registrant, a person who changes his name by virtue of a judgement of court shall produce in the presence of or, if required, file with the Registrar or any person authorized to accept voter registration applications a certified copy of the judgement or his affidavit setting forth the pertinent facts containing the change of name.

Absentee Voting, By Mail
To request absentee ballots by mail, complete and return a request for Absentee Ballot by Mail PDF form indicating the reason you are not able to vote in person, either during earlier voting or on election day.  Return the form to the Registrar Voters. Absentee Voting Assistance for Uniformed Services Members and Overseas Citizens
If you are in the Military and/or living overseas click on the Federal Voting Assistance Program link http://www.fvap.gov 
Early Voting, In Person
Voters who want to vote early for any election may do so in person at their parish Registrar of Voters office beginning fourteen days prior to any scheduled election. Refer to the Schedule of Elections for early voting times for upcoming elections.

A REMINDER TO VOTERS - TAKE PICTURE ID TO POLLS
When you go to the polls to cast your vote in an election, be sure to take a driver's license, a Louisiana Special ID, or some other gnereally recognized picture ID that contains your name, address, and signature. Voters who have no picture ID and bring only a utility bill, payroll check or government document that includes their name and address will have to sign an affidavit furnished by the Elections Division in order to vote. Should any problems or questions arise; the principal office of the Registrar of Voters in each parish will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Election Day.
