Public Affairs ProgramsIn 1993, the New Orleans Fire Department created the Public Affairs Division. Public Affairs is an integral division of the New Orleans Fire Department that handles assignments of public information, fire education, is the liaison between citizens, city government and private industry. In the year 2000 the Public Affairs Division also added a Fire Recruitment Department, NOFD Explorer Troops and teamed up with the Fire Prevention Division to create the Juvenile Fire Setters Program. Public Affairs has an integral part in handling National and International Conventions, it is also responsible for intra-departmental events. Citizen's complaints can also be reported to the Public Affairs Division. Public Information section is responsible for intra-departmental events, media liaison, city government liaison, coordinating conferences, the NOFD Explorer Troop and the Fire Museum and Educational Center. Fire Education provides the citizens of New Orleans with fire safety information through our many Community Outreach Programs and Fire Presentations.
