Apparatus Demonstrations

A NOFD unit provides the public the chance to meet actual firefighters and to view a fire apparatus :

  • Learn the name and use of equipment
  • Demonstrate warning devices (lights, siren, and air horn)
  • Allow children to flow water from booster water tank (weather permitting)
  • Explain what the responses of civilians should be to a responding apparatus

Smoke Detectors

Smoke detector installation program - The New Orleans Fire Department purchases smoke detectors and installs them free of charge for Citizens in need.

This program is made possible from donations to the Friends of the New Orleans Fire Department
Public Affairs coordinate the efforts with Suppression who will come to citizens home and install up to two (2) Smoke detectors in a residence.

Batteries will also be replaced in the smoke detectors of elderly or physically challenged persons who cannot change their batteries themselves.

Comments and Complaints

The New Orleans Fire Department strives to serve the citizens of New Orleans in a courteous and professional manner at all times. If you feel the services provided to you were did not achieve this goal, please let us know.

By the same token if you feel a firefighter went above and beyond the call of duty we would like to know of this as well. Citizen comments and complaints are handled through the Public Affairs Division.
Procedures are:
