New Orleans HDLC
The New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission has jurisdiction over ten (10) local historic districts, and many individually nominated and designated landmarks in all areas of the City that are outside of the boundaries of the Central Business District (CBD). Although there are numerous commercial corridors, the majority of buildings reviewed by the New Orleans Commission are residential in nature. This fifteen (15) member Commission, like its CBD counterpart, assists in the adaptive reuse of buildings and structures. Much staff time is devoted to guiding homeowners in the appropriate repair of their structures. Homeowners, in fact, receive free expert advice in an efficient manner. The New Orleans' Commission has a large responsibility in the area of Demolition by Neglect. Buildings that fall into disrepair are an impediment of the revitalization and maintenance of our city's neighborhoods. The vast number of structures under its jurisdiction only intensifies the need for success. The Commission attempts to be proactive in its approach to have buildings repaired when maintenance problems are minor.
