Identifying Suspicious Activity
|
Since 9-11-2001, the Federal government issued heightened states of alert for local law enforcement and has urged American citizens to remain vigilant for the threat of new terrorist activities. Residents and employees should increase awareness of their surroundings and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement. In New Orleans, call 911 to report suspicious activity to the police department.
A quick, accurate description of events, vehicles, and persons can make all the difference in apprehending a potential criminal. Any type of activity or circumstance that seems unusual should be reported.
- A stranger loitering in your neighborhood or vehicle cruising the streets repeatedly.
- Someone peering into cars or windows of a home.
- A high volume of traffic going to and coming from a home on a daily basis.
- Someone loitering around schools, hotels, medical facilities, city, state or federal buildings, airports, chemical plants, train stations, bus stations, parks or other secluded areas.
- Strange odors coming from a house or building.
- Open or broken doors and windows at a closed business or an unoccupied residence.
- Someone tampering with electrical, gas or sewer systems without an identifiable company vehicle and uniform.
